Patrikana e Pejës

Patriarchate of Peja is located at the entrance of Rugova Gorge near Peja. The Holy Temple Apostles was built by Archbishop Arsenije in the third decade of the 13th century. During the 19th century, minor modifications were made to the Church of the Holy Apostles, therefore some parts were decorated later. Serbian patriarchs and archbishops were buried in Patriarchate churches from the 13th to the 17th century. During the 19th century, a water mill, a guesthouse, and new stone walls were added to the complex. UNESCO declared the Patriarchate of Peja for the 13th World Cultural Heritage Site of July 2006. Whereas on 13 July, 2003, Patriarchate of Peja was put on the list of world heritage sites by UNESCO. Based on historical, artistic, social, spiritual values, Patriarchate of Peja in 2016 was proclaimed in permanent protection by the Kosovo Council for Cultural Heritage.
