Xhamia e Mbretit

The Sultan Mehmet Fatih II Mosque is located in the nucleus of the old city of Prishtina. The six-line inscription written in the Arabic alphabet on the entry portal gives 1461 as the exact date of construction. Taking into account the monument, construction, construction manner and decorative elements, it is ranked among the most important objects of Islamic architecture in South East Europe. In the yard of the mosque there is also a fountain built in 1996. It was built with yellow carved stones. Interior walls are lined with bricks connected and plastered with lime mortar. The thickness of the walls is 180 cm. Based on historical, social, spiritual and artistic values, the Sultan Mehmet Fatih II Mosque asset was proclaimed a site under permanent protection by the Kosovo Council for Cultural Heritage in 2016.
